This recipe is a delicious and classic Italian dish that the whole family will love! -1 pound Italian sausage
-1/2 cup chopped onion
-2 cloves garlic, minced
-1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
-1 (6 ounce can) tomato paste
-2 tablespoons sugar
-1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
-1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds
-1 teaspoon salt
-1/4 teaspoon black pepper
-4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
-12 uncooked lasagna noodles
-3 cups ricotta cheese
-1 egg
-1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
-2 tablespoons chopped parsley
-3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
-1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1) In a large saucepan, cook sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until sausage is no longer pink. Drain fat.
2) Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, basil, fennel seeds, salt, pepper, and 4 tablespoons parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
3) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
4) In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook lasagna noodles until tender but still firm. Drain noodles, and rinse with cold water.
5) In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, and 2 tablespoons parsley.
6) Assemble lasagna in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread 1 1/2 cups of sauce over the bottom of the dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Sprinkle with 1 cup mozzarella cheese. Spoon 1 1/2 cups sauce over cheese, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers of noodles, ricotta cheese mixture, mozzarella cheese, and sauce. Top with remaining noodles and sauce. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Cover dish, and bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven, and let rest for 10 minutes.
