Ways to Adjust the Recipe for Gluten-Free Diets

Making this recipe gluten-free is easy – just switch out the hamburger buns for gluten-free sandwich bread, and use a gluten-free beer instead of the American pale ale! You can also experiment with different types of GF flours to make the beer-battered coating, or try roasting or grilling the cod instead of deep-frying it.

Ways to Adjust the Recipe for Vegan Diets

Although this recipe is centered around the deep-fried cod, it can easily be adapted for a vegan diet. The cod can be swapped for a vegan fish substitute, such as Gardein Fishless Filets, or a plant-based protein such as tempeh. The horseradish tartar sauce can also be replaced with a vegan tartar sauce, made with vegan mayonnaise, onion, dill, capers and lemon juice. The hamburger buns can also be swapped out for vegan-friendly sandwich bread or hamburger buns.
